Improving Energy Efficiency in Indigenous Communities
PNG offers rebate programs and support to help Indigenous Nations improve the energy efficiency for homes and other buildings. We’re committed to working in partnership with Indigenous communities to identify specific needs and explore opportunities to lower energy use, reduce costs, and improve year-round comfort.
New, high efficiency heating systems can significantly reduce the amount of energy it takes to heat your space or water. Additionally, reducing the energy required to heat your space can be achieved by limiting heat lost from your building by improving the insulation, doors, and windows. Check the links below for additional PNG rebate programs and funding opportunities, such as residential building envelope rebates, commercial deep energy retrofits, or dual-fuel heat pumps which integrate high efficiency electric heat pumps with your furnace and allow you to continue using gas furnace heating during colder temperatures.
For PNG customers receiving piped gas or propane, our space and water heating rebates for Indigenous Communities offer rebates to purchase and install a new high efficiency ENERGY STAR® boiler, furnace, or water heater to replace an existing one. Rebates reimburse up to $5,000 for a furnace or boiler or up to $2,500 for a new water heater in eligible homes on First Nations reserve land, or up to $11,000 for a boiler in eligible First Nations Community owned or operated buildings with non-residential PNG accounts, and up to $18,000 for multi-unit shared systems in eligible Community owned or operated housing.
