August 4, 2026
Beginning this fall, customers in PNG’s North East service area—including Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, Tumbler Ridge and surrounding communities—who are currently on bi-monthly billing will transition to monthly billing.
Once the transition is complete, affected customers will receive one bill each month instead of one bill every two months.
The move to monthly billing provides customers with smaller, more frequent bills and more regular information about their energy use.
What to Expect
Customers may begin noticing changes to their billing schedule in October 2026. As accounts move to monthly billing, some customers may experience one-time adjustments to their billing schedule, including:
- Receiving a bill earlier than usual.
- Receiving a bill that covers a shorter period than usual.
These are expected, one-time adjustments required to establish monthly billing. They do not indicate a billing error or duplicate charge.
After your first monthly bill, you’ll continue to receive monthly bills on a regular schedule.
Do I Need to Do Anything?
Your account will automatically transition to monthly billing.
If you pay by pre-authorized payment, your payments will adjust automatically. If you pay your bill manually, you should expect to make payments on a monthly basis going forward.

Frequently Asked Questions
Understanding the Change
Beginning this fall, PNG North East will transition residential and commercial customers currently on bi-monthly billing to monthly billing.
Customers can expect to receive their first monthly bill in October 2026.
As part of the move to monthly billing, some customers may receive one bill earlier than usual or one bill covering a shorter period than usual. These are expected, one-time adjustments required to establish monthly billing and do not indicate a billing error or duplicate charge.
After that, customers will continue to receive monthly bills on a regular schedule.
The move to monthly billing applies to all residential and commercial customers in the PNG North East region who are currently on bi-monthly billing.
Customers already on monthly billing, including budget billing customers, and customers in the PNG West service area are not affected.
Monthly billing provides customers with:
- Smaller, more frequent bills that can make monthly budgeting and payment planning easier.
- More regular information about energy use, helping customers monitor consumption and identify changes sooner.
We’ve heard from customers that they want more regular information about their energy use.
Monthly billing provides more frequent consumption information, helping customers monitor their usage and identify changes sooner. It also means smaller, more frequent bills that can make monthly budgeting and payment planning easier.
Yes, as part of the move to monthly billing, meters will also be read monthly, rather than every two months.
What to Expect During the Transition
During the move to monthly billing, some customers may temporarily receive a bill earlier than they typically would or a bill covering a shorter period than usual.
These are expected, one-time adjustments required to establish monthly billing and do not indicate a billing error or duplicate charge.
Yes. As your account moves to a monthly billing schedule, your billing date will change. After the transition, you can generally expect to receive your bill around the same time each month.
No. During the move to monthly billing, some customers may receive a bill earlier than expected or for a shorter billing period than usual.
These expected, one-time adjustments are required to establish monthly billing and do not result in duplicate charges.
We understand that some customers may prefer receiving and paying their bill every two months, particularly if that is the schedule they have been accustomed to for many years. While all affected PNG North East customers will be moving to monthly billing this October, we appreciate that it may take some time to adjust to the new schedule.
It isn’t possible for PNG to maintain separate billing schedules for individual customers. As a result, bi-monthly billing will not be available as an individual billing option.
Your account will automatically be moved to monthly billing.
Customers should be aware that the timing of their bills may temporarily change during the move to monthly billing. After that, customers should expect to receive and pay bills monthly.
Customers on pre-authorized payments don’t need to take any action—payments will continue to be withdrawn automatically for each bill issued. Customers who pay manually should expect to make monthly payments.
Your rates are not changing.
Because you’ll receive bills every month instead of every two months, each bill will cover a shorter period and will typically be lower than a bi-monthly bill. This change affects how often you receive a bill, not how your energy use is billed.
Payments and Billing
Moving to monthly billing will not result in additional administrative fees or charges for customers.
For example, the Basic Charge is based on the billing period and will be prorated accordingly, so receiving 12 bills instead of six will not increase the total Basic Charge customers pay.
While there are operating costs associated with issuing bills more frequently, these are being managed within PNG’s existing budget and approved rates, and balanced by efficiencies, including increased e-bill enrolment, and other operational benefits associated with monthly billing.
If you would prefer not to manually make a payment each month, you can sign up for pre-authorized payments and your payment will be withdrawn automatically for each bill issued. You can also sign up for e-billing to receive your bill electronically as soon as it is issued.
Customers enrolled in pre-authorized payments will continue to have payments automatically withdrawn for all bills issued during the move to monthly billing, including any bill issued earlier than usual or for a shorter billing period.
After that, pre-authorized payments will continue automatically on a monthly basis.
Customers who pay their bills manually may temporarily receive a bill earlier than usual or for a shorter billing period during the move to monthly billing.
These bills should continue to be paid by the due date indicated on the invoice. After that, customers should expect to receive and pay bills on a monthly basis.
No. Customer rates are not changing as part of the move to monthly billing.
No. Your account number will remain the same.
No. Monthly billing and Budget Billing are separate.
Monthly billing simply changes how often you receive a bill—from every two months to every month. All PNG North East customers currently receiving a bill every two months will automatically move to monthly billing this fall. Your bill will continue to reflect your actual gas use, with the amount varying each month based on your consumption.
PNG’s Budget Billing Plan is a separate, optional program that lets you spread your payments over 12 equal payments throughout the year. Any PNG residential or commercial customer whose account is in good standing is eligible to enrol. You can learn more about Budget Billing here: png.ca/account/budget-billing.
No. Budget billing customers are already billed monthly and will not experience any changes to their billing frequency as part of this change.
Service and Support
While customers remain responsible for paying their bill by the due date indicated on the invoice, PNG NE recognizes that some customers may need time to adjust to the new monthly billing schedule, particularly during the transition to monthly billing when bill timing may differ from what they are used to.
Customers who believe they may have missed a bill, incurred a late payment charge or have questions about making a payment are encouraged to contact Customer Care as soon as possible. We will work with customers to understand their situation and explore potential payment arrangement options, where appropriate, based on individual circumstances.
Customers will receive information about the move to monthly billing through a combination of customer communications, including:
- Email for customers with an email address on file
- Bill communications for all impacted customers
- Website updates and FAQs
- Social media
- Other customer communications, as appropriate
