Normal natural gas pipeline supply has been restored
Terrace, October 17, 2024
The normal natural gas pipeline supply has been restored to the approximately 95 customers who were being served with LNG in the Mount Layton Hot Springs/Lakelse Lake area. Pacific Northern Gas Ltd. (PNG) is continuing to maintain service to customers downstream from its Mount Layton Hot Springs Station amidst ongoing operational impacts.
On October 3, 2024, approximately 40 kilometres upstream of Kitimat, a logging truck heading north on the Kitimat Highway (Highway 37) rolled over. The logs carried on the truck subsequently struck the Pacific Northern Gas Ltd. (PNG) Mount Layton Hot Springs Station, causing gas infrastructure damage.
Crews have now completed the immediate repairs to the impacted gas infrastructure. PNG does not anticipate any further immediate impacts to highway traffic.
Public and employee safety, and reliability of service, are PNG’s top priorities. This continues to be a dynamic situation, and the repair period duration depends on multiple factors including onsite safety considerations and the extent of gas infrastructure damage.
PNG will provide updates as more information becomes available. For more information about PNG’s emergency preparedness and response, or for all incident updates, please visit the PNG website at www.png.ca.
Thank you to members of the public for their patience as this important repair is being carried out.
