How to Get Started

Check your eligibility.

You must be a PNG residential customer with a natural gas or propane home-heating system that’s at least one year old. See below for more eligibility details.

Choose your path.

DIY installation or professional service — both qualify for rebates.

Complete your rebate.

If you’re installing it yourself, complete our quick application form and upload your proof of purchase. If you’re working with a PNG Preferred Contractor, the rebate will be applied directly to your invoice.
It’s that simple — comfort, control and energy savings in just a few steps.

You’re eligible for the rebate if:

  • You’re a PNG residential natural gas or propane customer
  • Your primary home-heating system uses natural gas or propane
  • Your natural gas or propane furnace or boiler is more than one year old
  • You either install an eligible ENERGY STAR® smart thermostat yourself, or have it installed by a PNG Preferred Contractor
  • You have not already redeemed a Smart Thermostat rebate on your account

Pair Your Rebate with a Furnace or Boiler Tune-Up

Make your upgrade go further.

Smart thermostats work best when your home’s heating system is running efficiently. That’s why many customers choose to pair their thermostat upgrade with PNG’s annual $100 Furnace or Boiler Tune-Up Rebate— a separate offer that helps improve system performance and reduce energy waste.

You can combine both programs — one for your thermostat and one for your heating system — for up to $400 in total, supporting added comfort and better long-term efficiency.

The Smart Thermostat Rebate is a one-time upgrade. The Furnace or Boiler Tune-Up Rebate ($100) can be used every year, helping keep your system running smoothly so your smart thermostat can do its best work for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

Rebates are limited to one per PNG residential account. If your home has more than one heating system with separate meters, each system may qualify for its own rebate.

In most homes, yes. If your heating system has one furnace or boiler, a single smart thermostat manages the entire home’s temperature.

You don’t need Wi-Fi for your thermostat to function, but you will need it for some of the smart features — things like adjusting the temperature from your phone, getting energy-use insights, or having the system make automatic adjustments based on your schedule.

You can install it yourself if you’re comfortable doing so, or you can hire a PNG Preferred Contractor to handle installation and apply the $300 rebate directly to your invoice.

PNG’s Preferred Contractor network is a list of independent, licensed contractors who meet program requirements. The network is open to any contractor who meets these criteria. It helps connect customers with vetted contractors and supports smooth rebate processing.

If you’re looking for professional installation, working with a Preferred Contractor ensures your system is compatible, installed properly and eligible for the instant rebate.

If a Preferred Contractor isn’t available where you live, contact us at savingenergy@png.ca. We’ll help you explore options to participate in the rebate.

Smart thermostats control whatever equipment they’re connected to. For most PNG customers, that means a natural gas or propane heating system. If your home also has a connected cooling system — including part of a dual-fuel (hybrid) system, if applicable — make sure you choose a thermostat that supports those functions. The thermostat will manage all compatible equipment.

The PNG rebate applies because your primary home-heating system uses natural gas or propane.

For the thermostat to be eligible for a rebate, it must be listed on the ENERGY STAR® website.

Renters may be eligible if they are a PNG account holder and have the property owner’s permission to install the device.

No, but you’ll get the most out of your smart thermostat with the mobile app. The app lets you adjust temperatures, set schedules, and monitor energy use from anywhere.

Each PNG account is eligible for one thermostat rebate. Customers who have already claimed a thermostat rebate under this program are not eligible for an additional rebate at this time.

You can take advantage of any other rebate you are eligible for.

For example, you can combine the Smart Thermostat Rebate with PNG’s $100 Furnace or Boiler Tune-Up rebate when a PNG Preferred Contractor completes both during the same service visit — this is a common way for customers to take advantage of the $300 contractor-installed thermostat rebate.

You can also participate in manufacturer promotions if they apply.
