Thermostat Rebate and Customer Helpdesk Pilot Program

Customer Helpdesk Phone Line (Trial until March 30, 2026)

PNG is providing a helpdesk customers can phone for assistance with programming or scheduling a smart thermostat to optimize their heating.

We’ve heard from preferred contractor partners that sometimes customers struggle with or just forget how to program the times when their thermostat can reduce heating, such as at night or when no one is home. It can be a challenge for contractors to respond and help customers quickly or even offer a service call, especially in the busy heating season.

Our helpdesk will assist any PNG gas heating customer to get the most out of their smart thermostat, to schedule the times and temperature when you need heating automatically on, and the times when heating can be turned down to reduce your gas bills.

Phoning the Thermostat Helpdesk

Customers can phone 1-833-281-8905 at any time, any day and leave a message. You will receive a call back during working hours Monday-Friday (a representative will try to return your call within 24 hours). In the message, it is important to include:

• Your phone number and name
• Your thermostat brand and model (this is typically found on the front plate or inside if the device opens)
• A brief description of what you need help with
• Please be prepared to provide the representative with your PNG account number (this can be found on your PNG bill)

Save More with a Smart Thermostat

Smart thermostats help schedule your heating to help you save money on your energy bills. Some have features like motion sensors, geo-fencing, and the ability to check the weather to optimize your furnace or boiler operation over time. Some come with remote control and can provide useful insights through energy use tracking. Thermostats listed on the Energy Star Connected Thermostat list are eligible under the PNG program. Talk with your HVAC contractor about what is best for you.

How to Participate in the Thermostat Rebate

1. You must be a PNG residential customer with gas furnace or boiler as your primary heating source and not previously used your thermostat rebate at your current address.
2. Connect with a PNG Preferred HVAC contractor or a member of the Home Performance Contractor Network to discuss your home heating needs and schedule an appointment. All services should be agreed to in writing.
3. Provide the contractor with access to your furnace or boiler and thermostat for the appointment.
4. Review important operations and maintenance information with the contractor.
5. Sign the customer declaration.
6. Review the contractor invoice. The PNG rebate of $100 for the furnace or boiler tune-up, and up to $300 for a smart thermostat purchase and installation will be shown as a reduction in the amount owing on your invoice.
7. If you don’t require a contractor or tune-up, you may be eligible to receive up to $250 towards the cost of a smart thermostat that you purchase and install yourself. Home Heating System Tuneup – Contractors

Contractors who register with PNG’s Home Heating System Tune Up & Free Smart Thermostat Program have confirmed that they have met the basic qualification criteria and have agreed to a Code of Conduct. However, you are responsible for ensuring the contractor you hire is right for you. PNG is building its list of contractors and it will be made widely available through this website. In the meantime, please contact your local HVAC contractor about PNG’s Home Heating System Tune Up and Smart Thermostat offer and ask them to contact PNG about how to get on the Contractor list.
