PNG offers the Dual Fuel Heat Pump rebate to all qualifying residential customers; however, different additional funding opportunities exist from the Provincial CleanBC program aimed to support different needs and communities in different ways.
For PNG residential customers integrating* a new heat pump with an existing furnace, the PNG top up is up to $2,500 in addition to your CleanBC rebate. When customers also upgrade their existing old or low efficiency furnace to an eligible, high efficiency natural gas furnace, the PNG top up offers up to $3,500 (in addition to your CleanBC rebate of $9,000 or more), or up to $5,000 (in addition to your CleanBC rebates of less than $9,000).
Customers who do not receive a CleanBC rebate may still be eligible for a PNG top up (please contact a Smart Energy Solutions advisor).
*The resulting integrated hybrid or dual-fuel heat pump system (heat pump and furnace components) must be an approved combination (a matched system) with a corresponding matching AHRI number (this can be found at https://www.ahridirectory.org, or with the BC Hydro heat pump product look up tool https://app.bchydro.com/hero/HeatPumpLookup). If your furnace does not have matching heat pump components, it may qualify for replacement if it is over 10 years old or less than 85% efficient (please contact a Smart Energy Solutions advisor).
THIS PROGRAM ENDS WHEN FUNDING HAS BEEN FULLY ALLOCATED OR NEW ENDING DATE IS POSTED HERE
What is a dual-fueled heat pump?
A dual-fuel ducted heat pump combines a heat pump and a natural gas or propane furnace or boiler for back up heating, distributing heat and cooling through ductwork connected to vents in each room. During mild temperatures, the heat pump operates as the primary space heating device. When the outside temperature drops below a certain temperature, the heat pump shuts off and heating is provided by a natural gas or propane furnace.
Using a dual-fuel space heating system offers efficient and reliable heating even in the coldest of temperatures and provides cooling during the warm summer months. A dual-fuel space heating system offers significant natural gas savings and GHG reductions.
